The April 2015 Red Tent was held at Soma Space -- a beautiful dance studio in the Hollywood district of Portland. Soma Space is perfect for a red tent with all of its red details, cushy pillows, back jack chairs, open space and high ceiling. Our focus for this red tent was on the cycles of the moon and stages of women’s lives. I passed around cute little mini journals with fancy pens and tumbled moonstone so that we would keep track of how we’re feeling throughout the month in relation to the moon’s cycles. I also passed around temporary moon tattoos to apply in prominent places on our bodies so that we can remember to write in our journals. For sharing time, we reflected on what stage of our lives we’re in, how we’re feeling about it and if we notice anything in relation to the cycles of the moon.
It’s fun to come up with different activities and themes for each red tent, but it is also challenging! I like to make it fun as well as meaningful. I was so delighted last month when I came across an online store that sold the moon tattoos. It’s owned by a young entrepreneurial woman with whom I had the pleasure to correspond. She liked our mission so much, she wound up making a donation! Her website is http://www.themooncult.com/ and she has all sorts of fun things relating to the moon -- and aliens, too.
A big shout out goes to Amber Carol Lewis who helped so much with set up and take down as well as collecting money at the door. She also brought a lot of food! Her 12-year-old daughter attended as well as my daughter, who just turned 13 the day before, and they were a big help, too. I loved that we had all ages represented at our event. We’re all looking forward to our next red tent on May 23rd and hope some of you can join us!
